RUBS (Ratio Utility Billing System): Tenant FAQ | SNSHN — Details

What is RUBS?

RUBS stands for Ratio Utility Billing System. It splits a shared utility bill among residents using a pre-set formula.

When does RUBS apply?

  • Multifamily One city water meter for the whole property. SNSHN divides the bill among occupied units.
  • Single-family Single-family residents pay their own full water bill directly.

How does SNSHN calculate RUBS?

We use bedroom count across occupied units, not headcount.

Your charge = (Bedrooms in your unit ÷ Total bedrooms in all occupied units) × Total building water bill

Worked Example

Duplex. Total water bill $200.

Unit / ResidentBedroomsShareAmount
Unit A (Kevin) 3 3/5 $120.00
